History: I started playing drums in 1980 at the tender age of 10. My parents bought me a cheap drum kit for christmas, thinking it would be good therapy for my legs.
I was born in Burnie, Tasmania. Had my first ever drum lesson in 1981 with Scott Bird (ex Pale Riders). Formed my first band with some friends from school in 1984, didn't really sound that great. but we had fun.
My first professional band gig was in 1989 with Avasive Action, a hard rock covers band based in Devonport, Tasmania. This band lasted about 18 months, then I joined an LA Style hard rock band playing covers of Skid Row, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC. This band only lasted 6 months due to a few over excessive ego and drug problems with other band members.
In 1992 due to the lack of future career prospects in Tasmania, I ventured across to mainland Australia and based myself in Melbourne. Within a month of being there I found myself auditioning for various bands from one end of Melbourne to another. While trying to get myself known as a drummer around the place, I played at the occasional Jam night at various hotels around Melbourne. I also roadied for a couple bands as their lighting tech, working at various venues around Melbourne.I also met Tubby Wadsworth (ex Massappeal, Killing Time, The Harlots) who took me under his wing and started working on my playing. I took lessons with him for 18 months until he re-located interstate to per sue other band interests. I had a couple of other teachers, then was introduced to Ashley Davies (Mighty Servant, Matt Walker) who I took lessons with for nearly 8 years.
In 2000 I joined an acoustic band called Genius. This was something different for me as I had never played with any band which didn't have walls of guitar amps. To start with, I was just playing a snare drum and hats... and using brushes. This lineup lasted about 12 months, but a fairly busy 12 months which included a 6 month Thursday night residency at The Village Belle Hotel in St. Kilda, various Cafes, Private Parties and a "Live to air" performance on 3VYV Community FM on the outskirts of Melbourne.
Late in 2001, I decided after almost 10 years of living in Melbourne, it was time to move on. I re-located to Sydney and caught up with my long time friend Tubby Wadsworth and started refining my skills. My approach to playing is very simple. I'm not a very technical player, just a solid rock player. I like to keep all my fills very simple with a good feel for the music. My playing style is very much influenced by 70s rock drummers such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Phill Rudd (AC/DC), Ian Paice (Deep Purple) and Carmine Appice (Rod Stewart) with a taste of the new age rock players like Scott Phillips (Creed), and Ben Gillies (Silverchair).
